Students may pursue both Undergraduate and Graduate degrees at the University of Texas at El Paso. Students whose primary instrument is double bass will receive one individual private lesson per week, particulate in our weekly studio class, and have opportunities to perform in one of our many ensembles (Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2, and the Commercial Music Ensemble). The double bass studio consists of between 12-15 students. The double bass studio focuses on classical solo repertoire, standard orchestral literature and excerpts, and improving technique on the instrument. The environment of the double bass studio is highly supportive and encouraging to one another.

Students may choose to major or minor in music.

Music Major degrees include Music Education, Music Performance, Commercial Music., and Music Technology. All of these majors include private lessons and participation in our ensembles.

Students who wish to pursue a Music Minor degree that includes lessons and performing in the Orchestra or other ensembles should pursue the Applied Music Minor.

graduate studies

Teaching Assistantships are available for students wishing to pursue a Master of Music degree. These students will receive private lessons and participate in Studio Class and the wonderful UTEP ensembles, but will also have the opportunity to hone their skills in teaching and will assist the String Area in duties as needed.

Music Technology

Jesus teaches courses in Music Technology at UTEP. The courses that Jesus teaches focus on learning Logic Pro, an industry standard and industry leading Digital Audio Workstation. Students first learn the basics of audio; from what a waveform is, to learning the basics of a signal chain, to microphone types, what MIDI is and how it works; all the way to producing their own cover or original songs using Logic Pro. The courses also include learning the basics of notation software to notate their own music, arrange music, or create exercises or music for their future students.
